Xavier Oriach was born on November 20, 1927 in Sabadell (Catalonia). He started drawing and painting in his late '30s.

he is accepted at the School of Fine Arts of Valencia and in 1947 is involved in the founding, the activities and exhibitions of the avant-garde group "Z" (he was its youngest member). It is pointed out by the fauvism of its interiors and its landscape.

In January 1951, Xavier Oriach if installed in Paris. In Barcelona he meets Antoni Clave, in Valencia Manolo Gil, Mompó, Sempere, in Paris he has met the Catalan artist Tàpies but also Chilida, Lobo, Parra, Pelayo, Palazuelo. A few months after his arrival, Bernard Dorival is interested in his work and asks him to help organize the Braque retrospective at the national museum of modern art. In 1953, the Breteau gallery presents his paintings, and Oriach joins the Nouvelle École of Paris by participating in many group exhibitions, in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles and the Salon de Mai.

He settles in Jouy-sur-Eure. His studio became a place for meetings and debates, he created a Center for contemporary art where he presented artists such as his friend Pierre Tal Coat, Raoul Ubac and Tàpies. He also founded and a sculpture biennial.

From 1991, Xavier Oriach lives between Normandy, where several retrospectives of his work have been organized, and Catalonia, where he exhibits his works regularly.
