Guillermo Pérez Villalta

Biography

The painter Guillermo Pérez Villalta was born in 1948 in Cadiz. He studied architecture but eventually moved on to study painting. He moved to Madrid in 1968 and developed an interest in the Movida Madrilène, a cultural movement that began after Franco's death in the early 1980s in Spain. His painting then began to take on neo-mannerist looks. He was also interested in engraving and lithography then experimented with bronze, ceramics, furniture and carpet design. His work has earned him prestigious prizes such as the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1985, the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2006 or the Culture Prize of the Autonomous Community of Madrid.
