Ethel Bergman

Sweden

She is currently more dedicated to painting, employing experimental techniques she has developed herself, conveying themes of social commentary or her vision of an almost dreamlike universe.

Biography

She was born in Gällivare (Lapland-Sweden) “with a camera in her hand” since -according to her family and childhood friends- “at only nine years old and with her own aesthetic vision probably fostered by the aesthetics of an incomparable natural environment, she began to take photos of everything around her, spending her allowance on film and developing.”

She is currently more dedicated to painting, employing experimental techniques she has developed herself. Although formally termed "Informalism," Ethel's work has a deeper meaning, reflecting the artist's spirit. Given her concern for the environment and inspired by the landscapes of her native Sweden, Ethel blends on her palette the colors her mind has gathered on her travels around the world. These journeys, at altitudes of over 12,000 meters, have offered her a unique perspective on mountains, volcanoes, islands, and lakes—a perspective that she now translates onto her canvases with her feet firmly on the ground. She is equally adept at conveying themes of social commentary or her vision of an almost dreamlike universe, accompanying her work with incredible volumes that lend it that distinctive third dimension, so characteristic of Ethel Bergman.
