Biography

Painter born on 05/23/1884 in La Chaux-de-Fonds 9/11/1936 in Geneva, from La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Son of Louis-Henri, watchmaker, and Rose-Mathilde Guinand. Jeanne-Laure Du Bois.


Student of Charles L'Eplattenier. Stay in Munich (1902-1906). Studies in Paris (1906-1909), workshops of Jacques-Emile Blanche, Eugène Grasset and the glassmaker Carot. C. settled in Les Brenets (1909), then in Geneva (1912).

He was one of the main Swiss poster artists of the time, he touches all areas: commercial, cultural, social and political.


Painter of Jura landscapes and portraits, stained glass windows for several Neuchâtel churches, illustrations and lithographs of a patriotic nature.

He produced a series of postage stamps for Pro Juventute (1933-1936). President of the Cercle des Arts et des Lettres de Genève (1929-1931).

He died on 09/11/1936 in Geneva.
