Biography
Alexander Roytburd was born in 1961 in Odesa.
In 1983 he graduated from Art-Graphic Faculty of the Odesa Pedagogical Institute.
He is one of the key figures of the first major post-Soviet artistic generation that emerged in late 1980's. He is one of the founders of Ukrainian trans-avant-garde movement and a pioneer of video art. His practice embraces painting, graphics video and installation art. He's also been very active as curator, publicist, communicator and intellectual trendsetter who immensely contributed to establishing of contemporary art scene in Odesa, Kyiv and Moscow at the turning point of historical epochs in late 1980's – early 1990's. His works can be found in international museum collections including MoMA (New York) and State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow).
The artist conducts active exhibition and curatorial activities.
He lives and works in Kyiv and Odesa, Ukraine.
