Lynn Russel Chadwick

Lynn Russell Chadwick (1914–2003) was an English sculptor who became one of the defining figures of postwar British art. Without formal training as a sculptor, he developed a unique technique of welding steel rods into geometric armatures, creating angular, expressive forms that drew on the human figure, animals, and architecture. In 1956 he represented Britain at the Venice Biennale and won the International Sculpture Prize, surpassing the favourite Alberto Giacometti. His work entered the collections of MoMA New York, Tate Britain, the Musée Rodin, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Royal Academy of Arts. A major retrospective was held at Tate Britain in 2003, the year of his death.
