Biography

Alex Brown studied painting at Camberwell School of Art London.  His work is held in National Collections and sells Internationally. He works in the UK and France. Working with brush and palette knife and his own colour theory.

"Painting the range of objects available in our post-modern era, combined with photography, allows me to juxtapose and create contemporary meanings that connect to popular culture and Surrealism.

Painting from life places me in the history of observational painting.

I bring these things together with the painting language I have developed.

Colour expresses realism and feeling rather than detailed drawing.  Mark making and shape explores abstraction through spacial perception.

My influences are Matisse cut-outs and Poster Art.

The contradiction between flat pattern and painterliness fascinates me."
