Carson Butterbaugh

United States

Between realism and abstraction, Carson Butterbaugh paints emotionally charged moments where humans blend into nature.

Biography

Carson Butterbaugh (born 1998 in Kailua, Hawaii) is a painter who explores the fragile balance between humans and nature. Growing up surrounded by the ocean, forests, and mountains, he developed a deep connection to the natural elements, later contrasted by his move to the city, which reinforced his awareness of our disconnection from the living.

Trained in classical painting at the Barcelona Academy of Art, Carson has developed a pictorial language that oscillates between realism and abstraction. His figures, often in motion, dissolve into atmosphere and gesture, creating emotional impressions rather than a fixed narrative.

Guided by intuition and feeling, his practice is reminiscent of surfing, which he has practiced since childhood: entering a state of flow, letting oneself be carried by the energy rather than opposing it. His paintings invite us to slow down, to feel and to find harmony between humanity, nature and the inner world.
