Biography

Joseph Yaeger is an American artist renowned for his contemporary painting, figurative compositions , and exploration of the image in the digital age. Born in the United States, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at the Yale School of Art, a prestigious education that profoundly influenced his practice. His work explores the circulation of images, visual memory, and the relationship between vernacular photography, popular culture, and the history of painting.

Joseph Yaeger has developed a unique technique of painting from images found online, particularly on social media and Google Street View. His canvases, created with oil on canvas or linen, are characterized by subtly blurred surfaces, a muted palette, and a melancholic atmosphere. This process questions the materiality of painting in the face of the dematerialization of digital images, situating his work within the field of contemporary figurative painting and post-internet art.

His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at international institutions and galleries, including La Dépendance (Brussels), Project Native Informant (London), and the Lombard Fried Gallery (New York). His works have also been presented at major art fairs and acclaimed by the specialized press. Through an approach that is both intimate and conceptual, Joseph Yaeger has established himself as a leading figure among the new generation of American painters, exploring the evolving nature of contemporary perception.
