Biography

BRUCE BRAITHWAITE (1950 - ): Bruce Braithwaite is an English-born American painter known for his realist landscapes and urban scenes. Born in Manchester, England, he later attended Georgia State University, where he studied fine art and developed a background in design, illustration, and commercial rendering. Beginning in the 1980s, Braithwaite produced extensive series of oil paintings depicting Cumberland Island and the landscapes of southwest Georgia before turning his attention to the architecture and streets of Atlanta. His urban work was featured in the exhibition and was later displayed in connection with the 1996 Olympic Games. After relocating to the Northeast in the early 1990s, he expanded his subject matter to include New York and Philadelphia, while also traveling throughout the American West to paint mountain and desert landscapes. Working primarily in oil, Braithwaite combines careful observation with a strong sense of atmosphere and light, and his paintings are represented in public and private collections and have been exhibited widely.
