Biography

CHARLES KEIGER (1957 - ): Charles Keiger is an American painter born in Asheville, North Carolina, and based in Atlanta, Georgia, known for imaginative paintings that combine Southern Gothic sensibilities with magical realism. He earned a BFA from the University of South Carolina in 1979 and an MFA from the University of Georgia in 1982. Keiger constructs his compositions from familiar elements such as trees, flowers, animals, and people, placing them in dreamlike and often surreal settings that suggest stories without providing a fixed interpretation. His work evolved from an earlier abstract style into increasingly detailed and meticulously rendered paintings characterized by unusual narratives, rich color, and a sense of wonder and whimsy. Working primarily in oil on canvas and wood, he explores human emotion, memory, humor, and the possibility of alternative realities. Keiger has exhibited extensively throughout the Southeast and in New York, and his paintings are held in numerous private and corporate collections, including those of MGM Grand Las Vegas and Halle Berry.
