Biography
JACK ELMO KING (1920 - 1998): Jack Elmo King was an American Western and sporting painter known for his detailed depictions of horses, wildlife, cowboys, Native American subjects, and the rugged landscapes of the American West. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, he studied at Glendale Community College before attending the Los Angeles Art Center School on the GI Bill following his World War II service in the U.S. Navy. Although he worked for many years as a draftsman and engineer in the aerospace industry, King continued to paint throughout his career, eventually becoming a full-time artist after his retirement. His paintings combine careful draftsmanship with a strong appreciation for Western scenery, often portraying horses, cattle, riders, hunting scenes, mountains, deserts, and expansive wilderness settings. King exhibited extensively, including for many years at the Calgary Stampede Western Art Auction, and his work has appeared in major museum and private collections. His paintings remain sought after by collectors of Western and sporting art.
