Biography

SURIN JUNG ( - ): Surin Jung is a Thai-born American painter who has spent much of his adult life in the United States and is based in Atlanta, Georgia. He began painting at a young age and initially worked extensively in watercolor before discovering oil painting in the late 1970s, which became his principal medium. Jung is particularly influenced by French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, citing artists including Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Pierre Bonnard among his inspirations, as well as the Pre-Raphaelites. His paintings frequently feature richly detailed scenes of European cities, canals, architecture, landscapes, and everyday life, characterized by luminous color and a strong appreciation for atmosphere and beauty. Jung worked for many years as an executive in the publishing and technology industries before becoming a full-time artist, and he has exhibited internationally, with works represented in prominent public and private collections. He is also a bilingual writer and editor and has published several books on Eastern philosophy and mental cultivation.
