Biography
Lyle Carbajal was born and grew up in Los Angeles, California. Carbajal studied to be a designer and his formal training has followed him into these expressive pictures full of comic book monsters, primitive masks, flags, signage and animal motifs, all working hard to find their place in his dark psychological world.
Heavily influenced by Outsider, Primitive Art, and Art Brut, Lyle Carbajal explores themes around the sacred; animals, totemic symbols and religious rites, the pictures an expression of his experience, his relationship to the cultures he has come across, immersed himself in.
Lyle Carbajal has exhibited at the Museu de Estremoz in Portugal, Art Chicago, The National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, The Raw Arts Festival in London and La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles.
