Biography
Born in 1982, Nina Chanel Abney is an American artist, based in New York. She received her MFA from Parsons School of Design in 2007.
Abney uses her paintings as a vehicle to examine many contemporary social issues, notably race, gender, politics and religion. However, her vibrant color palette and cartoonish figures help alleviate the seriousness of her subject matter.
Abney's paintings have been featured in many international institutions and can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum.
