Description
Quietly mysterious, a blue mermaid emerges among golden swamp plants in a decorative bone china vase with a distinctly dreamlike presence. The central figure is shown with raised arms and flowing hair, while her pale body blends into currents of water that rise and wrap around the vessel. This sense of movement gives the work an elegant, almost floating rhythm.
Made with overglaze paints and a 12% liquid gold solution on bone china, the artwork pairs two contrasting visual languages. The mermaid is painted in soft smoky blue-gray tones, making her feel elusive and water-bound, while the marsh flora is described with glossy gold and darker graphic detail. The meeting of these elements creates a refined decorative balance between fluid softness and metallic richness.
The vase reads as both a functional object and a collectible artwork. It is especially well suited to modern decor, curated interiors, and buyers who appreciate mythology, femininity, and nature-inspired design. It also makes a distinctive gift for someone who loves ceramics, fantasy imagery, or elegant statement objects.
Materials: overglaze paints, 12% liquid gold solution, bone china.
Shipping / Display: The artwork is shipped in a protective box.
Presentation
Oxana Kondratenko was born on November 26, 1972, in Klaipeda, Lithuania.
With a strong academic background and two higher education degrees, she made a conscious transition into the field of art, following her primary vocation—painting. She focused on one of the most demanding mediums: artistic porcelain.
In 2018, Oxana graduated from the College of Traditional Culture. In 2019, she further developed her professional expertise at the renowned Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design in St. Petersburg, mastering the rare and highly skilled profession of porcelain painting artist.
She achieved a high level of mastery and recognition within the professional art community.
Oxana has held several solo exhibitions, including at the Hermitage–Vyborg Exhibition Center in Vyborg, and has participated in numerous international group exhibitions.
A key indicator of her success is the inclusion of her works in state museum collections.
Her works are held in the following collections:
2023, September 4 — State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg
2022, December 19 — Hermitage-Vyborg Exhibition Center, Vyborg
2022, May 13 — Keramarch Museum of Architectural Ceramics, State Bastion of the Peter and Paul Fortress, St. Petersburg
Currently, Oxana is working on her flagship series “Swamp"—a large-scale collection of interior vases in overglaze painting on bone china.
The central motif of the series is the “Swamp Mermaids," who draw the viewer in, leading them into their watery embrace. This is not merely a fairy-tale narrative, but a sensual exploration of human psychology. It represents a conscious confrontation with the fear of the unknown—a bold invitation to look into the deepest hidden realms, where invisible life resides. In this space, the artist discovers fragile beauty and mystery.
Enchanting mermaid figures, born from the collaboration of porcelain, fire, and gold, become guides into a world where fear transforms into beauty, and mystical fog becomes pure art.
