Description
This captivating painting is an explosion of surrealism and color in contemporary Spain. Using a mixed technique that combines watercolor and charcoal strokes, the artist creates an intriguing scene where human and animal elements converge. A bird's face, with a piercing eye, emerges at the top, connected to an abstract human form, creating a fusion between the earthly and the ethereal. The wings suggest a sense of freedom, contrasting with the vibrant, jagged lines that add energy and dynamism. The prominent red lips at the bottom contribute an element of sensuality, standing out amidst the controlled chaos of colors. This work challenges the viewer to explore the duality between freedom and desire, the human and the inhuman, defying the limits of conventional perception.
Presentation
Viktor Popov (1952, USSR) is an artist of the second wave of the Russian avant-garde. He began by decorating playgrounds and building wooden villages, developing his passion for this material. In 1985, he moved to Leningrad (Saint Petersburg) and joined a group of avant-garde artists. Influenced by Malevich's Suprematism, he created geometric art and, after moving to Germany in 1991, returned to working with wood, creating abstract sculptures. He has exhibited at the State Russian Museum and in several international exhibitions.
