Description
Luminous colors define this Mediterranean scene. Jaroslav Hudes employs a fluid, expressionistic approach to capture a sun-drenched coastline. The composition leads the eye down a sloping path toward a shimmering blue bay. Vibrant yellow lemons hang from delicate branches, framing the view with organic warmth.
The artist blends watercolor and pencil to create a sense of airy lightness. Soft washes of ochre and gold illuminate the coastal architecture. Green shutters provide a sharp, refreshing contrast against the warm stone walls. The brushwork is emotive and spontaneous. It prioritizes atmosphere over rigid architectural detail.
Two white sailboats drift on the calm water, adding a feeling of serenity and leisure. The interplay of light and shadow suggests a warm breeze and a bright midday sun. This artwork transforms a landscape into a sensory experience. It reflects the artist's ability to translate urban and natural vistas into poetic compositions. The piece concludes with a focus on the gentle textures of the stone walkway and the vivid greenery of the lemon trees.
Presentation
Jaroslav Hudes is a Prague-based academic artist whose work captures the through a distinct expressionistic lens. Specializing in watercolors and intimate, smaller-scale paintings, Hudes focuses on the intersection of historic charm and modern urban life. His work is characterized by fluid, emotive brushwork that seeks to evoke the atmosphere of Prague's narrow alleys and sweeping cityscapes rather than providing a literal architectural record.
Along with the watercolors and paintings of Prague, Jaroslav Hudes creates floral watercolors and urban views of other towns and cities, but those are rarely seen in his collections.
Regarded as one of the most distinctive Czech artists working today, Hudes has established a significant presence within the contemporary art scene. His artworks are kept in corporate, state, and private collections worldwide. His ability to translate the bustling spirit of the Czech capital into delicate yet vibrant compositions has led to his work being held in prestigious corporate, state, and private collections.
By emphasizing the play of light and shadow on stone and asphalt, he invites viewers to experience familiar corners of Prague through a fresh, sensory perspective. Based in the heart of the city, his practice remains an ongoing dialogue with the evolving textures of his home. Each of his artworks is unique, hand-signed by the artist, and accompanied by an authenticity certificate. The artist is exclusively represented by the Katie Art Gallery in Prague.
