Description
Artist: Logan Hicks
Title: Life Line

Notes: Logan Hicks is known around the world as one of the hardest working artists alive, Logan is among the most talented contemporary artists today. His vision is exacting, and his standards are extremely high. After months of discussions, we decided to use a special Liquid Graphite Pigment with Silver Flake to provide the solid slate-like feel that Logan wanted in this print while maintaining a sense of depth and variation that is so important to his artwork. The results are striking.

Presentation

Logan Hicks is an American contemporary artist, born in 1971 in Baltimore (Maryland), recognized as one of the pioneers of multi-layer stenciling, a technique that allows him to produce works of remarkable photorealism. Based in Brooklyn (New York), he has been developing a practice for over twenty years that blends street art, urban art, photography, stencil painting, and aerosol, making him an essential figure in the contemporary art scene. His work explores the relationship between the individual and the urban environment, transforming architectural landscapes into meditative compositions where light, shadows, and perspective play an essential role. Nicknamed "the painter with a photographer's eye," Logan Hicks first creates his own shots before transcribing them through an extremely meticulous process that can require up to 15 layers of stencils for a single work. His approach is influenced by the Old Masters for light treatment, but also by the Lowbrow movement and street art culture.

Trained at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in the early 1990s, he began as a serigrapher before dedicating himself entirely to his artistic practice. After a stint in California where he joined the Lowbrow scene, he settled in New York in 2007. His work gradually evolves towards more introspective pieces, incorporating aquatic motifs, reflections, and compositions where human figures dialogue with architecture, exploring themes of identity, solitude, memory, and contemplation.

Logan Hicks was personally selected by Banksy to represent the United States at the Cans Festival in London in 2008. He has also participated in several editions of the NuArt festival in Stavanger (Norway). His monumental works are visible in several international cities, including New York, Miami, Paris, Istanbul, Baltimore, and Tunis, notably within the famous Wynwood Walls project.

Among his main solo exhibitions are Structural Integrity (The Outsiders, London, 2012), Thin Veils and Heavy Anchors (LACE, Los Angeles, 2013), Love Never Saved Anything (PMM Art Projects, New York, 2014), Momento Mori (1AM Gallery, San Francisco, 2015), Nature (Taglialatella Galleries, New York, 2019), Still New York (Mazel Galerie, Brussels, 2021), as well as several exhibitions at the Galerie Itinerrance (Paris), Opera Gallery (Paris and New York), Galerie Joël Knafo (Paris), and Open Space Gallery (Paris). He also participates in numerous collective exhibitions and international fairs in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

Today, Logan Hicks is considered one of the major artists of contemporary stencil painting, his works being sought after by collectors for their technical mastery, photographic precision, and ability to transform the city into a poetic and introspective space. His universe combines contemporary art, urban art, street art, photorealism, architecture, aerosol painting, and photography, making his work an essential reference in the international art scene.
