This composition navigates the delicate balance between abstraction and urban recognition. Earthy tones dominate the palette. Muted ochres meet deep browns and organic greens. The brushwork feels urgent. It captures a fragmented view of a city landscape.
Geometric forms intersect with fluid lines. A vertical white streak cuts through the right side. It suggests a beam of light or a structural edge. To the left, verdant strokes evoke foliage. They breathe life into the architectural rigidity. The perspective is tilted. It mimics the fleeting gaze of a pedestrian.
The artist uses layering to create spatial depth. Opaque patches of color overlap. They reveal hidden shapes beneath the surface. A dark silhouette anchors the right edge. It provides a strong visual contrast to the pale background. The tension between order and chaos defines the atmosphere. Every stroke serves a purpose. The final result is a rhythmic study of form and light. The artwork concludes with a subtle signature in the lower right corner.
Presentation
Lilian Klapisch is a French-born Israeli artist known for her expressive and distinctive approach to figurative painting. Born near Paris, she studied art at the Académie Ranson and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière before moving to Israel in 1969 and settling in Jerusalem.
Her work combines observation with expressive freedom, often moving between recognizable forms and abstraction. Alongside painting, Klapisch has created an important body of prints, including lithographs, etchings and screenprints.
Her work has received significant recognition in Israel and is held in major museum collections, including the Israel Museum, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Haifa Museum of Art. She received the Sandberg Prize in 1983 and the Minister of Science, Culture and Sport Prize in 2001.
