Description
My series Take Me Out Of The Blue emerged from a specific set of letters written by my grandfather (whom I never met) to my grandmother while he was a young man serving in the US Army during World War I. At the center of war is the human being, striving to survive against both the bombarding threats and the harrowing sense of isolation war inevitably enforces. Still, there exists one abiding antidote to war's cruelties--real human connection. It is these truths that radiate out from my grandfather's letters and words, including when he wrote this to his beloved "Goldie".
Presentation
Ellen Brook creates vibrant and expressive abstract mixed media artwork. Ellen's passion for color, spontaneous gestures, marks and textiles come together in her work as visual poetry. Art is a perfect place to explore her curiosity about the human condition, the nature of the mind, and the properties of beauty and color as they relate to healing. Ellen's most recent series, "Message in a Bottle," explores the themes of longing and connection based on a box of 100 year old letters she discovered that were written by her grandfather (whom she never met) when he was a soldier in WW1.
Ellen also creates one of a kind fashion that has many of the same qualities of energy, dynamism and movement found in her visual art.
