Description

This vibrant still life by Louis Valtat captivates with its bold palette and meticulous composition. The artwork features a striking array of fruits and objects, including bananas with vivid yellow skins, bunches of lush green grapes, and succulent peaches, each meticulously detailed. A bread loaf and apples add rustic charm. The decorative black platter adorned with richly colored floral patterns provides an eye-catching backdrop and contrasts strikingly with the wooden table surface. An ornate ceramic jar adds a touch of elegance, while a white cloth, casually placed, introduces an element of texture to the scene. Valtat’s use of color and light creates a harmonious balance between realism and impressionistic flair, inviting viewers to explore the intricate details and vibrant contrasts. The piece exudes a sense of abundance and vitality, celebrating the natural beauty of everyday objects with masterful artistry.

On the rectangular table top there are items: White bread - Ukrainian meadow, two ears of corn, apples and peaches, black and white grapes, in the center behind them - a black Zhostovo tray, a sugar bowl to the right of the tray - in the background, a piece of white drapery at the bottom right. The background is greenish gray. The artists signature is located at the bottom left in Cyrillic.

Nina Stenshinskaya, Bread and fruits
Russian Federation  • 1901

Presentation

Stenshinskaya  Sergeevna (1901 - 1988) was born in Tambov.

She graduated from Vkhutein in the workshop of I. I. Mashkov.

She was a member of the art association "Being" (1926-1929), artists of revolutionary Russia (AHRR, 1929-1932).

She worked mainly in the genre of still life.

G.A. is close in her creative aspirations. Sretensky.

Nina Sergeevna paints sunflowers and apples, melons and corn, blackcurrants and garlic with the same enthusiasm and material-subject matter.

But at the same time, she also works a lot on genre compositions, combining figures of people with images of fruits, flowers and objects in a landscape or interior.

The picturesque method of Stenshinskaya is based on revealing the beauty and material flesh of things through the harmonically-integral color system of the works. Member of the Moscow Union of Soviet Artists since 1932. Participated in art exhibitions since 1923.

Personal exhibitions: Moscow - 1965,1973.

Major works: Rosehip (1934), Picking Apples (1938), Partisan Mother (1942), Pie. Still Life (1964), Sunflowers (1968), Still Life. Meat and Potatoes (1969), Still Life. Wildflowers and Currants (1971), Spring (1974).
