The Oil painting on Cardboard titled “A ship preparing to set sail" captures the expectant stillness of a harbor moments before departure, when human activity, nautical detail, and natural elements converge in a delicate balance. The composition is dominated by a moored vessel tethered to the dock, surrounded by shimmering reflections of water that reveal the tranquil yet anticipatory mood of the scene. The perspective draws the eye from the solidity of the pier toward the boats and beyond, where the horizon and distant shoreline dissolve into atmospheric tones. At the forefront, the pier extends diagonally across the composition, its wooden planks rendered with brisk strokes of ochre, pink, and earthy brown, suggesting both solidity and the marks of time. This dock is not just a structure but a stage, leading the viewer toward the anchored ship at its edge. The ship, detailed with masts, rigging, and flags that flutter faintly, embodies readiness. The vertical lines of the masts and taut ropes contrast with the horizontal calm of the water, symbolizing energy contained, waiting to be released once the sails catch the wind. The water itself is a central protagonist in this composition, painted in deep greens, layered turquoises, and muted violets. Zhitomir artist Suprunchuk Yuri Sergeevich Born on April 11, 1961, in the city of Zhitomir. Graduated from the Zheleznogorsk Art School, Russia (1982). Teachers in the specialty: V. Chukuev, E. Nikulin. Painter. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (2002). Major works: "Near the house" (2005), "Winter on the outskirts of Zhitomir" (2006), "Autumn still life" (2004). Lived and worked in the city of Zhitomir.
