The Oil painting Cardboard titled "River near the village" captures a tranquil and timeless scene where nature and rural life harmoniously meet. The composition is built around the gentle flow of the river, its calm surface reflecting the soft tones of the sky and the vivid greenery along its banks. In the foreground, a small wooden boat rests quietly by the shore, slightly tilted in the water, as if waiting for its owner to return. The stillness of the boat contrasts with the fluid movement of the reflections and lily pads drifting across the surface, creating a sense of balance and serenity. This detail instantly evokes the feeling of a peaceful countryside afternoon, where time seems to slow down and human presence feels gentle, almost secondary to the rhythms of nature. The middle ground of the painting expands into open meadows and a bright stretch of land bathed in sunlight, painted in warm hues of yellow and ochre, dotted with subtle pink and green accents. These tones breathe warmth and freshness into the work, suggesting the vibrancy of summer or early autumn. Beyond the meadow, the viewer can glimpse the village itself—its rooftops painted in earthy reds and a slender white structure, perhaps a church tower or a rural landmark, rising modestly into the horizon. This glimpse of civilization is portrayed not as an intrusion into the natural setting, but as part of the same landscape rhythm, integrated into the flow of earth, sky, and water. It becomes a reminder of the simple yet enduring connection between human life and the natural environment. On the right, a large tree dominates the composition, its dense foliage painted with expressive brushstrokes of deep green and hints of light breaking through. The textured strokes convey the liveliness of leaves stirred by a passing breeze, adding dynamic contrast to the still surface of the river. On the left side, a smaller tree stretches its delicate branches, some leaves already falling, hinting at the transition of seasons. Together, these trees frame the view, guiding the eye toward the distant village while providing a natural arch of shade and shelter. The interplay of light and shadow within the foliage further enriches the atmosphere, suggesting depth and movement even within this calm rural scene.
