Description

This striking artwork presents a surreal family portrait set against a bold, orange backdrop that suggests an otherworldly setting.

The figures, dressed in period attire, possess exaggerated, devilish features, including horns, adding an unsettling element to the composition. The shadowy, muted tones of their clothing contrast vividly with the warm background, creating a powerful visual dichotomy. The figures are rendered with a striking chiaroscuro effect, highlighting facial expressions while casting deep shadows that enhance their eerie presence. A hint of red behind one figure introduces an additional layer of intrigue and tension. The sweeping arch above them forms a halo-like structure, juxtaposing innocence with their devilish attributes. This artwork masterfully combines historical and fantastical elements to challenge viewer perceptions, creating a compelling narrative that intrigues and disturbs simultaneously.

Its bold use of color and shadow showcases a unique blending of classical portraiture with contemporary surrealism.

Antoni Falat

Poland  • 1942

Presentation

Antoni Falat is a Polish artist born in 1942. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Warsaw, he founded later on, the Varsovian group "Aut" (Aut Pictura Aut Nihil) where the program insisted in " polish style, Polish figuration, Polish exotism". Initiator of the artistic movement "o popraw" "for improvement". He has participated in different festivals, such as at the Polish painting of Szczecin(1970, 1974, 1978, 1980) the Festival of Fine Arts of Warsaw (1970, 1972, 1974). In the 80s, he participated in the independent cultural movement. Between 1992 and 1996, he was a member of the Polish President's Cultural Council. In 1997, he received a gold medal by the National Commission of Education, a Gold Medal during the Third Festival of Fine arts and the Gold medal of Bielska Jesie. In 2005, his canvases were exhibited at the United Nations in Geneva. In 1992, he became rector of a private academy- The European Academy of Arts of Warsaw.

The photographs of Antoni Falat's family often serve him as model for his paintings. The "photographic" colors (blank, white, gray) dominate, enriched sometimes by a little bit of green and blue marine. A big part of his work is thematically linked to Polish reality, such as the cycle "the Polish Portraits" and " Poland of Pharahons".

His pieces can be found among international collections, at the National Museum of Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, the Ghent Museum, the Pushkin Museum and the Institute of Art of Moscow.
