Jacques Yankel

Jacques Yankel, pseudonym of Jacques Kikoïne, was born on April 14, 1920 in Paris and died on April 2, 2020 in Aubenas (Ardèche), aged almost 100. He was a French painter, sculptor and lithographer of the Second School of Paris. He was the son of painter Michel Kikoïne (1892-1968).

"For some artists, art is a hardship, a suffering; for me, it was a constant source of wonder. To step outside oneself, to one day bring to light what was camouflaged, hidden away somewhere, is a great magical mystery that has never ceased to haunt me. It would make you believe in God." in "Yankel" Ed. de L "amateur, 1994, p. 42.

"On the canvas one day appeared these large black scars ... I didn't expect them, I had seen them here and there, streaking a corner of the painting, but I hadn't paid any attention to them ... I naively thought that it would pass, that we would get back to serious things ..." in "Yankel, peintures 1990-2000", 1999, p. 2
