Guardians of the Primordial Woods, 2023

Tetiana Pchelnykova

"Guardians of the Primordial Woods" is a poignant new addition to my "Myths" series, intertwining the enigmatic beauty of Slavic and Scythian iconography with the wilderness of the natural world. This painting depicts the figure of a woman, her body adorned with ancient symbols that harken back to the Skifs and the Kyivan Rus, echoing the rich tapestry of our ancestors' mythos. In her hands, she cradles a white bird, an emblem of purity, peace, and the spiritual messenger between realms. By her side stands a wolf, a figure steeped in folklore as a symbol of guidance, instinct, and the deep forests' untamed spirit. This composition draws inspiration from the legend of the wolf in Slavic mythology, often seen as a powerful totem of protection and wisdom, guiding souls in their earthly journey and beyond. Set against the backdrop of an enchanted forest, the painting evokes the timeless connection between humanity and the myths that arise from our communion with nature. It invites viewers to reflect on the primordial stories that shape our collective consciousness and the eternal guardians that guide us through the cycles of life. "Guardians of the Primordial Woods" is not merely a visual narrative but a gateway to the sacred knowledge carried within our heritage and the natural world that cradles our existence.
