Description
Recordando el gran artista Alberto Riano Mangos Marzo, 2014 by Celso Castro. Black paint, and pastel on Cotton paper, Image size: 39.2 H in. x 28 in. W, Unframed.
This artwork features a dynamic composition of abstracted leaves and plants intertwined with fruit, rendered in bold black lines against a soft pink background. The artist employs a distinctive linear style, creating a tapestry of organic forms. The contrast between the stark black ink and the muted pastel backdrop adds depth and intrigue, elevating the otherwise simple subject matter. The interplay of lines evokes a sense of movement, guiding the viewer’s eye across the canvas. The detailed patterns on the leaves suggest a blend of nature and abstraction, offering a fresh perspective on botanical themes. This piece uniquely balances simplicity with complexity, inviting the viewer to explore its intricate design. The harmonious color palette and fluid forms work together to create a visually arresting piece that leaves a lasting impression.
Presentation
Celso Castro is a reference in Colombian Caribbean plastic arts who has drawn, painted, sculpted and photographed penises for more than four decades.
In his works, Castro exalts the male genitalia, putting into tension the limits imposed by the sex/gender system that are part of an unquestioned patriarchal and phallocentric order. Most men
The ones he portrays are inhabitants of the Colombian coast, also constructing alternative ways of conceiving Latin American identity.
By breaking taboos on corporality and male sexuality, his work has been censored on many occasions due to public accusations of immorality and pornography.
