•  “Integrating Calligraphy with Painting, and renew the images and spirits of Chinese characters. " This is the original creative concept that Liu Dongyao explored. The artist learned to paint at the age of 7 and calligraphy at the age of 10. He has been absorbing nourishment in Chinese and Japanese art, and visual arts for many years. He is constantly creating contemporary scenes of traditional calligraphy, and intergrating other modern arts like freehand ink experimentation, ink painting and graphic design.

• In the work of Liu Dongyao, he pays attention not only exquisite visual composition aesthetics, but also the profound meanings and literary artistic conceptions of Chinese characters, e.g. the Taoist philosophical significance behind the spirit of calligraphy.
