This artwork was created using oil on deep edge box canvas which is ready to hang or can be framed if desired. It is signed on the back, and the sides of the canvas are painted white. The painting is inspired by constant observation of the sea. Taking in it moods which can change so fast because of the light that effects change so dramatically and frequently. It is built up in layers, allowing each one to dry before moving on to the next. Painted intuitively with no reference material this oil has instead relied on an instinctive approach creating a emotional response using memories and feelings.

Artist Statement:
Nikki was born and bought up in rural Kent and is a self taught landscape painter. Now living on the Kent coast with a direct view of the sea from her home, she is able to observe the constant changing light which is a major source of inspiration. Inspired by light, nature and the seasons Nikki is not looking to produce a realistic image but rather to convey the emotions and feelings of the moment. She walks every day by the sea and in the surrounding countryside, making sketches and taking photos along the way, which she may use later as starting point for a painting. Once back in the studio often using no reference material, working intuitively she builds up the paintings in layers. All manner of materials come into play including brushes, palette knives, credit cards, rags , fingers and anything else that comes to hand

Artistic Influences:
Light and it's effects on the landscape and seasons are a major influence. I am inspired by the impressionists, fauves and contemporary art. Also many artists including Turner who painted the Kent coast.
