Description
From The Composition with Tools series
The “Composition with Tools" series engages observers with quirky and playful truisms, gently leading them toward deeper reflections. Jose Ricardo Contreras, after long hours using digital editing tools, presents these tools as images themselves, highlighting their hidden aesthetics. This generates associations and similarities, awakening their sensitive potential with a humor parallel to their constant search for new perspectives on everyday life.
This artwork presents a striking exploration of color and form through a minimalist approach. Dominated by a large, blurred gradient transitioning from deep red to brilliant white, the piece evokes a sense of dynamic motion and emotional intensity. Beneath this gradient, a series of thin, horizontal lines in varied hues—ranging from vibrant rainbow colors to stark black—offer a structured contrast to the fluidity above. The interplay between the soft blend of the gradient and the precise, linear elements creates a harmonious balance, drawing attention to the artist's mastery of color manipulation. Encased in a sleek white frame, the artwork exudes modern sophistication, prompting reflection on the relationship between chaos and order. This captivating piece challenges viewers to appreciate the beauty of simplicity and the profound impact of color.
Presentation
Jose Ricardo Contreras González's work revolves around the painting. The artist, a native of Bucaramanga, holds a Master of Arts from the Universidad Industrial in Santander. As a result of his work, he has held solo and group exhibitions in Colombia and Spain.
The artist explores the image through the examination of physical and digital records involving photography, film and other artistic expressions.
Currently, its process is guided by two investigations that are conducted in parallel. The first reflection on the mechanisms of representation of reality, the images of flow and their implications, and the second investigates the landscape and migration processes, using the review of domestic archives, literature and field work as a resource.
