Description

This unique work comes from the series: the waves, the path.

Unique original work, signed on the back and front, framed in an American white wooden box.

This series of waves begins at the end of 2022, one evening, with initially natural, warm colors as inspiration. Academically, the term represents the colors that literally come to us from the ground. We are talking about organic pigments obtained by the transformation of rocks before being reduced to powder. This family of natural colors, a precisely identified group, is defined in painting in particular by the common presence of brown in its shades.

So all these colors have a few characteristics in common. The touch of brown for the “earth" colors but also, a touch of gray for those which open to other horizons. This is the reason why we sometimes speak of “near neutrals" for the “earth" colors ", close to “true" neutral colors such as white, black and all shades of gray. These are therefore desaturated or muted palettes, of warm and cold colors which coexist harmoniously. She is first inspired by the work of Charlotte Lapalus, her photographs with warm brown colors and the sensuality of her curves.

Intersections, encounters and waves as movement

This series shows fluid movements, always. The technique is sensual, softer. Its shapes are also. They intersect. She sometimes lets a few lines dry, then she paints over other waves, to signify the intermingling of each. As a result, encounters are always at the center of his works. It is no longer so much the colors that meet, but the movement. This is why she believes her art evolved at this precise moment. She pays more attention to her movement than to the movement of the paint.

Emerging painter Anaïs LF titled this series: the path, the waves. The path first echoes her artistic evolution in this series, but also in the movement she represents with each brushstroke. The waves, for their curves, but also because in an abstract way, they remind her of her need to reconnect with the sea. She started this series when she was making numerous trips back and forth between Paris and Granville, almost every week. Once she decides to leave Paris to return to Granville, she actively continues this series.

Creative process: an evolution of techniques and tools

With this series, Anaïs LF completely changes her creative process. She discovers brushes, but big brushes. The same ones that were used in his family, carpenters and cabinetmakers, on his father's side. She more often had the opportunity to handle these large brushes: flat brushes, spalter brushes, most often with natural bristles. Moreover, she buys these brushes in supply stores dedicated to DIY and carpentry. When she returned to her third year of a Bachelor's degree in Information and Communication Sciences, she wanted to stop everything for a few days to resume studies in cabinetmaking.

From now on, with this series, Anaïs LF paints less with her hands. However, she continues to thin the canvas before painting it. The fluidity of the paint is less watery, a little thicker but still allows the brushes to mark their lines. To do this, she covers the canvas with a thick layer of white Gesso or acrylic paint of a tinted color, starting from white. Then, she arranges the colors that call her on two sides of the board, and she connects them together.

Presentation

Anaïs LF, young emerging artist, painter of feelings and encounters, grew up in Normandy, near the water. After studying information and communication sciences, where she explored the forms of romantic and cultural encounters, she places these encounters at the heart of her art. In 2018, his desire to create becomes a compelling need to transpose his feelings and explore his creative consciousness.

She wants her works to have a meditative quality. She does not seek to represent reality, but lets herself be guided by her freedom.

She does not aim for aesthetic harmony between each work, preferring to let each piece exist independently. Each creation is a self-contained entity, reflecting a distinct moment in its creative and emotional process. This intentional diversity allows his works to capture a diverse range of feelings and experiences, providing the viewer with a rich and multifaceted exploration of his artistic world.

Anaïs LF wants her works to leave room for the viewer to exist. The contemplative spectator, faced with a work, studies it, extracts elements that are interesting to him, and acts. To go even further than the contemplative attitude, she would like the viewer to integrate into their environment, to participate in constructing and composing the work. His returns in the form of reinterpretations each time underline a little more the multiple opportunities for encounters between oneself and the spectators as well.

The creation of spaces of freedom and encounter between oneself and others remains at the center of his art.

Summary of main series (2019-2024)

Each series reflects an artistic and personal evolution, exploring different techniques and inspirations to express deep and personal feelings.

This series is part of abstract expressionism, using the "All over" technique to completely cover the canvases, expressing intense feelings such as injustice and melancholy. The creative process includes techniques favoring the fluidity of painting, without brushes or knives, but with the hands (sometimes a few sticks), to create unpredictable and deeply emotional works.

Inspired by natural and warm colors, this series explores fluid and sensual movements, symbolizing artistic evolution and the connection with the sea. Using large brushes, the artist fluidifies the canvases with Gesso or acrylic paint, creating thick layers that mark their features.

Focused on the exploration of black, this series is inspired by Soulages and expresses the nuances of black through varied textures, representing mourning and resilience. The works capture light differently depending on the texture, creating powerful contrasts.

Inspired by Mediterranean blues, more design notions, and certainly the Colorfield trend, this series uses flat areas of bright colors, notably Majorelle blue and Klein blue, in contrast with black and white. Using varied techniques, the artist creates thick layers of paint, exploring contrasts and bringing life and hope through the color blue.
