Front of the mountain and the sea, 2024

Lika Kakhidze

This striking artwork presents an evocative seascape, characterized by its bold textures and compelling color dynamics. At the heart of the painting, a tranquil body of water extends, its surface masterfully depicted with sweeping, impasto strokes that suggest the gentle movement of waves. The water is rendered in varying shades of blue and gray, creating a harmonious and serene atmosphere. In the foreground, a series of vibrant red umbrellas punctuate the scene, their vivid color sharply contrasting with the more subdued palette of the water and mountains. These umbrellas, situated on a beach, draw the viewer's eye across the composition and inject a sense of life and leisure into the otherwise tranquil landscape. The artist's use of thick, expressive brushstrokes for the umbrellas and beach evokes a tactile, almost three-dimensional quality, bringing an element of immediacy and presence to the work. The background is dominated by a majestic range of mountains, their rugged forms depicted in moody grays and blues. The mountains loom over the scene, their imposing presence balanced by the calmness of the water below. The interplay of light and shadow on the mountains' slopes is skillfully rendered, giving depth and dimension to the landscape. Overall, this artwork stands out for its dynamic composition and bold use of texture and color. The contrast between the lively, red umbrellas and the serene, natural environment creates a striking visual impact. It is an evocative piece that captures the essence of a peaceful seaside setting, inviting the viewer to imagine the tranquility and splendor of the moment.
