Glowing Sentiment, 2024

Tamara Bakhshinyan

In this dynamic and striking abstract expressionist painting, the artist masterfully composes an intricate balance of color, texture, and form. Dominated by cool hues of blue and white, the canvas comes alive with pockets of intense color, including vibrant reds, bold yellows, and subtle greens. This juxtaposition creates a visually engaging contrast that immediately draws the viewer's eye and invites deeper inspection. The artwork's surface is layered with a range of textures, achieved through both the brushstrokes and the application of various media. Thick impastos of paint coexist with more delicate, transparent layers, creating a sense of depth and movement. Scratches and scribbles, possibly indicative of the artist's spontaneity, contrast with more structured grid-like patterns, adding a sense of controlled chaos. Interspersed throughout the painting are various geometric shapes—rectangles, squares, and small dots—each contributing to the rhythmic composition. The seemingly random placement of these elements suggests a meditative exploration of balance and spontaneity. The viewer's eye is drawn across the canvas, exploring each section as a distinct, yet integrated part of the whole. The use of white space serves as a resting point, giving the composition a breathing room and emphasizing the arrangement of colors and shapes. This thoughtful balance of positive and negative space attests to the artist's skill in composition. The lower portion of the painting features a bold splash of midnight blue, grounding the piece and adding a dramatic anchor in contrast to the lighter and more chaotic sections above. Overall, this artwork does not merely invite passive viewing—it demands active engagement. The complex interplay of vivid color, varied texture, and abstract form transforms the canvas into a captivating tableau that is both enigmatic and unequivocally compelling.
