Description
This striking artwork captures a mysterious, faceless figure, skillfully rendered in bold, expressive strokes. The character's hair is a dramatic cascade of black, sharp lines, obscuring the eyes and creating an enigmatic aura. The use of charcoal or soft pastels enhances the texture, giving depth and movement to the hair. The face is depicted with subtle shades of pink and beige, suggesting a gentle, introspective expression. The unfinished quality of the body, defined by smudged, dark streaks, adds to the raw, unrefined beauty of the piece. This approach invites viewers to explore themes of identity and anonymity. The contrast between the vivid hair and the soft facial tones establishes a dynamic visual tension, making this artwork a compelling study in minimalism and abstraction. The piece challenges the observer to confront the seen and hidden aspects of self.
Presentation
The worlds of fashion, society and pop culture are explored through the illustrations of Manuel Santelices, a Chilean artist and journalist living and working in New York for the last 20 years. After writing stories about style, design, art and politics for a number of magazines, including the Spanish editions of Elle, Harper's Bazaar and Esquire, and being fashion writer in New York for Vogue Mexico and Latin American for 7 years, Manuel decided to focus his attention to illustration, painting mostly with watercolors the same characters and events he covered as a journalist.
