Fragmented realities, 2023

Mariam Qureshi

This artwork is a dynamic interplay of abstract forms and muted colors that invite the viewer into a dreamlike landscape. The painting features a striking central element: a vertical cascade reminiscent of a waterfall, rendered in ethereal whites and blues that seamlessly blend into the background. Surrounding this focal point are jagged, rocky formations that spiral upwards, creating a sense of movement and depth. The artist employs a layered technique, using textured brushstrokes that suggest both solidity and fluidity. This duality is further emphasized by the contrasting earthy tones — russets, deep greens, and grays — which anchor the ethereal elements and lend a grounding effect to the composition. Hints of vibrant orange and yellow subtly peek through the cooler hues, suggesting light filtering through the landscape, adding warmth and life to the scene. The juxtaposition of these colors masterfully conveys an atmosphere of tranquility and mystique. The artwork stands out for its ability to evoke natural landscapes while remaining firmly in the realm of the abstract. Its compelling blend of colors and textures invites endless interpretation and reflects the artist's skill in creating an immersive visual experience.
