Description
Imagining and building new worlds is definitely the art that distinguishes GIANNI CHIRIATTI , aka “Borgagne," the Swiss-born Salento artist's stage name and place of residence, who returned to his homeland to create unprecedented pieces of unreality, composed of zoomorphic figures on a black background and accompanied by narrative counterpoints.
Works that seem to emerge from a chamber of wonders, where triumphs of fruit alternate with elements of rural life. The subjects-mostly female figures-have subtly erotic bodies, accentuated by portions of breasts, manicured feet, and eyes wide open to the world. With a painterly primitivism, the artist depicts her subjects, borrowing from Salento culture, with a flat three-dimensional technique and absent but atmospheric perspective.
