Description
"Oriental Mona" is a bold and dynamic reinterpretation of Leonardo da Vinci's iconic , infused with vibrant elements of Japanese pop culture and contemporary street art. Simone De Rosa masterfully blends acrylics, spray paint, and markers to create a visually striking composition that juxtaposes classical portraiture with modern graphic motifs.
The central figure retains the enigmatic essence of the original , yet is surrounded by a collage of eclectic symbols—ranging from retro video game characters and anime references to bold Japanese typography and commercial logos. The chaotic layering of bright reds, yellows, and blues evokes the bustling aesthetic of urban Japan, while phrases like "WE COME IN PEACE" and "MADE IN JARAN" add a playful, ironic twist.
De Rosa's work challenges the viewer to reconsider cultural icons through the lens of globalization, consumerism, and the fusion of East and West. is not merely a portrait; it's a statement on how traditional art can evolve within the context of contemporary visual language.
Presentation
Simone De Rosa, born in 1977, is a self-taught Italian Pop art artist who took his first steps as a Pop Art artist.
He started drawing and painting from an early age, at the same time she was also inspired by comics and attended the Roman school of comics in Rome, Italy. Definitely modern painting.
Strong, vibrant colors with large spray can brush strokes and large, contrasting color patches. He is focused on the impression. The painting must dominate the interior and attract attention, all his paintings are made on canvas. He likes to work on medium sizes, ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 meters or more, and often uses items such as shop mannequins and bowling pins.
He usually uses acrylic paints accompanied by different techniques, especially when creating collages. Simone De Rosa draws inspiration from his urban environments such as street art, cartoons, celebrity icons, advertising and brend in order to make his works of art unique and attractive even to the less skilled in art. Currently his works are becoming more and more popular, they are now in private collections in Europe and the United States.
