Description
This work captures a turbulent sea beneath a serene sky. Shades of blue and green blend harmoniously, illustrating the depth and movement of the waves. The texture of the canvas is palpable, with expressive brushstrokes conveying the raw energy of the sea. The contrast between the dark shades of the ocean and the lightness of the sky creates a dramatic yet calming atmosphere. The blurred horizon accentuates the vastness of the scene, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in this marine world. This work is distinguished by its ability to evoke both the power and serenity of nature, offering a captivating and immersive visual experience.
Presentation
Mark Stopforth is a highly sensitive and expressive painter who powerfully depicts the wild and dramatic beauty of British landscapes. His work pays homage to the tradition of the sublime, an artistic movement that seeks to showcase the grandeur of nature.
For twenty years, he has devoted himself to painting landscapes marked by stormy skies and rough seas, in the spirit of Romanticism, a movement that explored the intense beauty of nature. He also draws inspiration from memories of his childhood spent in the Fens of East Anglia, a region of vast skies and distant horizons. These powerful images remain at the heart of his art.
In addition to painting, Stopforth is a writer and poet. He recently published a book about his work, . His work has been exhibited in the UK and abroad, including several times at the Royal West of England Academy.
