Description
This vibrant and expressive work presents a fantastical world where colors and shapes blend harmoniously. At the center, a stylized animal creature, outlined in purple and adorned with colorful patterns, stands majestically. The background is a surreal landscape, dominated by a burning orange sun and verdant trees, accentuating the energy and vitality of the scene. Cryptic symbols float in the sky, adding a mysterious dimension to the whole. The signature "Jaber" and the number 97 on the left anchor the painting in a personal and enigmatic context. Presentation
Jaber El Mahjoub was born in 1938 into a family of shepherds from M'Saken in Tunisia. His childhood turns out to be perilous when his mother dies at the age of six. His sister educates him without financial means to give him access to school and the possibility of learning to read and write. At the dawn of 1958, he decided to move to Marseilles and worked as a baker. Two years later, he hit the road for the French capital. Gifted with his hands and his voice, he fashions sculptures and at the same time composes, writes and performs songs until recording two 45 rpm records with Pathé Marconi. A wealthy American is challenged by his work, she takes him to the United States, marries him and propels his career internationally.
