Description
Litv 1160
In "Visions of John the Evangelist," Daniil Litvinov immerses the viewer into a hallucinatory revelation of biblical apocalypse. At the center, the figure of the Evangelist John stands in dramatic illumination, holding a scroll—symbol of prophecy and divine message. He raises one hand in awe or warning, as he witnesses the chaotic unfolding of divine judgment. Surrounding him is a maelstrom of surreal creatures, nightmarish beasts, fallen souls, and ghostly horsemen, painted with grotesque exaggeration and emotional intensity. The left side of the painting teems with phantoms and shadowy forces, while the right erupts with militant riders, weaponry, and destruction. Litvinov's expressive style blends the sacred with the grotesque, echoing medieval iconography and modern surrealism. Through this painting, the artist conveys the overwhelming terror and spiritual awe of prophetic vision. It is a reflection on the fragility of the human soul, divine justice, and the cosmic scale of good versus evil. The viewer is drawn into a psychological and metaphysical confrontation with the end of the world.
