The Oil painting on Cardboard titled “River flows through rocky cliffs" captures the viewer's attention with its striking balance of rugged natural strength and delicate human presence. The scene unfolds along a river that carves its way through steep, rocky formations, its surface reflecting both the drama of the cliffs and the serenity of the open sky above. At the heart of the composition lies the dialogue between the enduring permanence of stone and the gentle, ever-changing flow of water, a conversation rendered with vivid colors and masterful brushstrokes. The river dominates the foreground, painted in layers of green, turquoise, and earthy brown, echoing the reflections of the towering cliffs and the vegetation that leans toward the water's edge. Lilies and aquatic plants are scattered across its calm surface, painted with bold dabs of white, blue, and pale green, giving the impression of a river alive with subtle movement. The reflection of the cliffs in the water introduces abstract patterns, where vertical strokes of ochre, sienna, and violet merge with horizontal smears of green, creating a shimmering mirror that blurs the boundary between solidity and fluidity. To the right, the rocky cliffs rise steeply from the water's edge. Their surfaces are rendered in rich earthy tones—deep browns, golden yellows, and muted violets—highlighting the rugged texture of the stone. Broad brushstrokes emphasize the roughness of the rock faces, while sharp contrasts of light and shadow suggest the erosion of time, as if these cliffs hold centuries of history within their layers. Against the cliffs, small patches of vegetation cling stubbornly, their greens and yellows adding a lively counterpoint to the otherwise solid, immovable masses of stone. The human element in the painting is delicately placed, emphasizing scale and harmony. In the foreground, a solitary figure sits in a small wooden boat, poised with a fishing net or basket, embodying the timeless activity of life along rivers. The figure, painted with quick, gestural strokes, appears small compared to the grandeur of the cliffs, reinforcing the theme of humanity's modest place within the vastness of nature. Nearby, two figures stand on the riverbank, their gestures suggesting conversation or quiet observation.
