Irises, 2022

Serhii Kovalenko

This captivating oil painting titled “Irises" invites the viewer into an ethereal moment suspended between still life and dreamlike human presence. At the heart of the composition, a bouquet of lush irises explodes with color and energy, rendered in expressive, textural brushstrokes. The flowers are set against a vivid table scene with cherries, a teapot, and delicate reflections—evoking both domestic intimacy and poetic surrealism. Behind the still life unfolds a reclining female figure, partially abstracted and softened into the background. Her presence blurs the line between subject and setting, enhancing the painting's mysterious, almost cinematic quality. The use of color is both bold and nuanced: purples and greens dominate, supported by gentle pastels and strong contrast areas that draw the eye across the canvas. Executed in the technique of Pour Painting blended with Realism and Expressionist touches, the artist demonstrates masterful control over oil media, transforming a quiet scene into a vibrant emotional narrative. The layered textures and painterly gestures speak to the tactile quality of original, hand-painted work—a piece that is not only visual but deeply sensory.

Perfect as Wall Art, this Original Fine Art piece enhances any space with elegance, movement, and timeless femininity.
