Description
Sank grew up in a small village in the Brie region, 50 kilometers from Paris. Arriving in the Pyrénées-Orientales at the age of 15, he discovered the village of Céret with its modern art museum and its historical importance in the Cubist movement. Sank was born. Immersed in the world of pop culture thanks to his father, he quickly developed an interest in numerous iconic characters: Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, and Dragon Ball, to name just a few of the most famous.
Sank also draws inspiration from Hip-Hop culture, but Cubism is the most prominent influence in his creations. His Walkers series, a universal message of solidarity with immigrant communities, is an important part of his work. However, the most frequent references are pop culture icons represented in pixel form. Blending arcade art and Cubism, he creates series featuring Mario characters: Mario, Peach, Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi. He even conceived the idea of creating a collaboration between Mario and Mondrian.
