Motherhood: Still Functioning, 2026

Victo

A portrait of that surprisingly resilient stage of motherhood when exhaustion has become part of the routine, personal space is mostly theoretical, and yet somehow everything still gets done. You may not remember the last time you finished a coffee while it was hot, but everyone is fed, dressed, alive, and reasonably happy — which feels like a small daily miracle.

The character is not fully in control, yet not completely lost. It exists in that in-between — a fleeting second of adjustment, where instinct takes over and everything feels slightly off. There is humor in the form, but also a quiet recognition of those moments when we act first and understand later.

Set against a bold, minimal background, the composition removes all distraction, allowing the gesture itself to carry the meaning. The tension in the body becomes the narrative.

Painted in oil on canvas, the work blends expressive brushwork with simplified structure. Warm tones and strong contrast enhance the sense of movement and immediacy.

Balancing absurdity with emotional clarity, the piece reflects a universal state — the moment of losing balance, yet still moving forward.
