Hand-painted on vintage map of France 1872 on 2 cm wood panel in floater frame.

No stencil or screen print.

On the faded surface of a vintage world map, a wondrous scene unfolds: a boy and a girl sit inside a giant paper airplane, their eyes filled with curiosity and the spirit of discovery. Beneath them, trade routes, distant coastlines, and the names of faraway places whisper stories of journeys, adventures, and dreams. Guided by imagination rather than destination, they chart their own course through a world of endless possibility.

Their flight transcends geography. Countries, oceans, and continents become part of a journey where exploration matters more than arrival. Like young adventurers writing their own story upon the maps of the past, they drift above mountains, seas, and distant horizons, carried by wonder and the belief that something new always awaits beyond the familiar.

Yet the historical map remains far more than a backdrop. Once created to describe, organize, and understand the world, it is deliberately reimagined through painterly intervention. Without erasing its past, the artwork overlays it with a new visual narrative, transforming its original function from a document of orientation into a space for reflection, imagination, and personal interpretation. Past and present coexist, inviting viewers to reconsider how we perceive place, distance, and belonging.

With every imagined gust of wind, the children seem to redraw the map itself—not with ink or authority, but with courage, freedom, and trust in the impossible. At the same time, the meaning remains intentionally open. The symbolism of adventure and liberation is not presented as a fixed conclusion, but as an invitation to reflect on our own ideas of boundaries, possibility, and exploration.

The aged surface of the map adds depth and resonance to the work. It carries traces of other times and evokes the countless journeys, ambitions, and aspirations that have shaped our understanding of the world. The map remains visible throughout the composition—as material, as memory, and as trace.

Entirely hand-painted, without the use of stencils or screen-printing techniques, the work preserves the immediacy and authenticity of the artistic gesture. Every mark, texture, and layer reflects a direct dialogue between the historical artifact and contemporary artistic expression.

Mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden panel and presented in a high-quality floater frame, the artwork appears to hover slightly away from the wall. This presentation enhances its layered presence and reinforces the sense of a suspended moment between history and imagination.

Ultimately, the work is a celebration of curiosity, imagination, and the enduring human desire to venture beyond the known. It transforms a historical map into a poetic space where memory and possibility meet, inviting the viewer to embark on a journey of their own.
