Description
This artwork presents a bold and dynamic composition, featuring abstract geometric figures on a vibrant red background. The dominant use of sharp, fragmented forms creates a sense of movement and tension. The muted tones of beige and gray contrast sharply with the intense red, enhancing the visual impact. The piece appears to blend elements of cubism with surrealism, inviting viewers to explore the interplay between the angular shapes and curved lines. The juxtaposition of hard edges and soft curves adds depth and complexity, creating a thought-provoking visual experience. The use of negative space is masterful, guiding the viewer's eye and contributing to the overall balance of the piece. Stark black accents punctuate the composition, drawing attention to key elements and emphasizing the dynamic tension inherent in the design. This artwork stands out for its ability to evoke emotion and provoke contemplation through its innovative form and striking color palette.
Presentation
Mario Angel is a Colombian-born, Canadian-based contemporary artist working primarily in acrylic on canvas. Trained at the University of Fine Arts in Medellín, he developed an enduring interest in symbolism, abstraction, and narrative. After a career outside the arts, he returned to painting full-time following retirement, focusing on semi-abstract compositions that explore identity, consciousness, memory, and transformation. His ongoing series examines the space between the tangible and psychological, using layered forms, restrained palettes, and intuitive mark-making to invite reflection and engagement with ambiguity.
