Description
A bold composition where forms intertwine vigorously forming a confrontation between a fantastic character and a centaur. The eye is immediately captured by a marked chromatic contrast. An orange and yellow background brings a solar luminosity to the scene.
The two figures confront or dialogue in an abstract space. On the left, a blue and green profile stretches, outlining a long silhouette. On the right, a centaur with a massive face, treated in white and bluish tones, seems to respond to this call.
The white line emphasizes the contours with precision. It creates a fluid link between the characters, like an invisible guiding thread. The gesture is stylized, almost primitive, recalling naive art through its simplicity and strength.
The material is applied generously. The touches of paint reveal an instinctive and assured work. The balance between color blocks and graphic lines structures the image.
This paper work stands out for its primary palette and its very free figurative approach. It plays on the duality of forms and colors to establish a constant visual dialogue. The whole concludes with a discreet signature at the bottom of the composition.
Presentation
Yvon Taillandier is a French painter, sculptor and writer born in 1926 in Paris.
In 1942, Yvon Taillandier exposed for the first time at the Gallery "L'art Français", in Lyon. Later on, he was committee Secretary of the "Salon de Mai" during 44 years.
Yvon Taillandier's painting is figurative, constantly narrative and creates an imaginary world with its personages and situations. Creator of "Taillandierland", the painter depicts this invented world with its habitants, its universe. Mixing image and language, Yvon Taillandier claims to be a literary painter.
From one painting to another, the shapes are modified, renew, man is often paired with machines, which are like a prolongation of himself. These curious characters have a certain timelessness.
In the 50s, Yvon Taillandier gave up painting and devoted himself to literature (art criticism, history of art). He worked then during fourteen years in the magazine "Connaissance des Arts" as well as in the magazine "xxe siècle".
