“Summer Glow" by Natalya Mougenot is a contemporary figurative portrait painting depicting a woman at rest, created in acrylic on heavyweight professional acid-free Canson paper, varnished for protection, and measuring 50 × 65 cm (19.7 × 25.6 inches). With its expressive style, vivid summer palette, and emotionally evocative subject, this artwork is ideal for modern, coastal, bohemian, or Mediterranean-inspired interiors and will appeal to collectors of contemporary figurative art who are drawn to themes of femininity, identity, and emotional expression.

The work belongs to Natalya Mougenot's ongoing series dedicated to women, a deeply personal body of work through which the artist explores identity, resilience, transformation, and the evolving role of women in contemporary society. As a woman herself, the artist approaches this theme not as an outside observer, but from lived experience. Her female figures become symbols of emotional strength, vulnerability, and the many responsibilities women carry in everyday life.

As Natalya explains, “This series about women is very important to me because it speaks about who we are beyond appearances — our inner force, our ability to transform, and the invisible weight many women carry while continuing to move forward." Through these paintings, she reflects on the complexity of modern womanhood: balancing personal dreams, social expectations, family roles, and the need to remain connected to oneself.

In “Summer Glow," the artist captures a fleeting yet essential moment of escape. The relaxed figure, dressed in a green swimsuit and leaning back with one arm raised, evokes a scene of summer leisure — a woman taking time for herself, far from obligations, responsibilities, and the constant demands placed on women. The intense orange background radiates warmth and sunlight, while the striped blue elements suggest a beach chair or seaside setting, reinforcing the sensation of holiday and stillness.

For the artist, this painting is about the importance of presence. “I wanted to paint that rare moment when a woman allows herself to simply stop, feel the sun on her skin, and enjoy the present without thinking of everything she has to do for others," says Natalya. The composition becomes a quiet celebration of self-care, rest, and reclaiming personal space — a powerful gesture in a world where women are often expected to put themselves last.

Natalya Mougenot's style is distinguished by its expressive, spontaneous figurative language. Rather than following academic traditions or striving for photographic realism, she paints intuitively, simplifying forms and using distortion to heighten emotion. The elongated neck, stylized facial features, and bold contour lines create a unique visual signature that is instantly recognizable. Her work is less about reproducing exact appearances and more about conveying inner states, sensations, and energy.

Her process is equally instinctive. She works with a spontaneous approach, often allowing the composition to emerge naturally without rigid preliminary drawing. Visible brushstrokes, layered colors, and unexpected contrasts give the painting vitality and movement. As the artist notes, “I don't try to paint reality exactly as it is. What interests me is the feeling of the moment — the emotion, the warmth, the energy that remains in the body and memory." This intuitive method gives her paintings a raw authenticity and emotional immediacy.

“Summer Glow" would make a striking addition to a bright contemporary living room, a serene bedroom, a coastal holiday home, or an eclectic interior with natural textures, terracotta accents, and soft neutral tones. Its warm oranges and cool blues bring both energy and calm, making it especially suited for interiors designed as personal sanctuaries — spaces meant for rest, reflection, and beauty.

This work will particularly appeal to collectors who appreciate expressive contemporary figurative art and seek pieces with both decorative presence and emotional depth. It is ideal for art lovers drawn to themes of femininity, introspection, and personal freedom — those who connect with artworks that tell a story about modern life while remaining deeply intimate and universal.

Presentation

Natalya is a contemporary  french artist living in Lyon.

She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.

She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.

She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.

In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism,  which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.

As an artist and as a woman  she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion,  is the pillar for the inner adult.

Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.

She works  rapidly  and is constantly sensitive  to the details.

Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
