Hold your Horses, 2026

Michael Gorban

A single figure stands at the threshold of a weathered wooden gate. The composition captures a stolen moment of childhood curiosity. Warm sunlight washes over the textured surfaces. Gold tones bleed through the peeling paint of the massive doors.
The scene breathes a rustic stillness. A small foal waits patiently in the foreground. Its auburn coat glows against the earthy ground. Nearby, a rustic cart and metal canisters suggest a life of rural labor and simplicity.
The brushwork is tactile. Every crack in the plaster and grain in the wood feels tangible. The archway frames the action like a stage. This creates a powerful sense of depth and mystery. We wonder what lies beyond the narrow opening.
The atmosphere is nostalgic and serene. Light plays a central role in directing the eye. It transforms a humble courtyard into a cinematic space. The palette remains grounded in ochre, cream, and deep browns. This artwork explores the quiet tension between the known and the unknown through the eyes of a child. Focus settles on the rough masonry and the stillness of the animals.
